when nomers visited...

i can't believe it's been two weeks since my beautiful sister naomi visited from chicago...

she was here for three full days, and met our bud for the first time.  she also managed to be here for the warmest and most GORGEOUS weather we've had yet - low 80's and sunny all weekend!

here's our weekend adventure as told in iphone pics...

{good morning!}

{first stop: nuvrei in portland.  she only had two MUST do's while in portland, and this was one of them.  of course, we were more than happy to take her - any excuse to have nuvrei's blueberry muffin.  and she was pretty excited about her almond croissant if you can't tell.  :)}

{she was also determined to try macaroons for the first time, so she got a box of 6.  i've never been a huge fan of macaroons, but i think i must have tried the wrong flavors in the past, because i tried their espresso and salted caramel ones, and OMG, they were pretty tasty. not that i needed any other sweets to like.}

{love this of nomers and my bud - he REALLY loved her too.  and can i just say how much i love the way he holds his hands?}

{after nuvrei, the hubs headed off to meeting, and nomers, bud and i set off without much of a plan.  actually, the plan was to walk around pioneer place for a while, but after parking, we realized the new nike store was right across the street from the smart park - i hadn't seen it yet so of course we had to stop in!  it's beautiful.}

{by this point, we were both feeling like portland tourists, so we continued on to something else just a couple of blocks away, and something i've been wanting to do for a LONG time - the sw alder food carts.  ok, i've done food carts in portland before, but never these, and i've never seen so many in one place before - there must have been close to 40 or 50 concentrated in a 2 block radius.  we spent a good while just walking around deciding on lunch but this food cart stopped us in our tracks.  as soon as we saw it, we knew what we wanted - PIEROGI!.  the last time i had pierogi was when we visited nomers in chicago a couple of years ago, and i've been wanting them ever since.  well, lidia, the owner of this food cart did not disappoint - she whipped up some AMAZING cabbage and mushroom pierogi with a healthy serving of sour cream - eastern european cuisine at its finest.  :)  she also imparted some 'wisdom', telling us to have many babies while we're young.  husbands come and go, we can get a new husband anytime, even when we're 60, but we only have so long to have babies, haha!}

{the pierogi in all their glory}

{and i couldn't resist taking a picture of this food cart}

{after our 'touristy' view of portland, everyone met back at our house.  here's madyson and kadence torturing playing with zoe.  kadence, who until then had been so terrfied of zoe she would only stay on the couches when she visited, was now rolling around on the floor with her}

{nomers & sweet baby girl audrey}

{after hours at our house, this is how everyone felt.  one of the funniest moments of the evening: madyson turned to reid and asked him why grownups like to do boring things and go to boring places, haha.  i guess after hours at our house and exhausting all entertainment possibilities, she was bored and couldn't understand why we, the grownups, weren't  :)}

{bud and auntie erica}

{saturday morning we experienced the french toast at gravy on mississipi ave - this was a 1/2 portion!  it's probably pretty obvious by now that food played a major role in naomi's visit.  :)}

{because i don't have a ton of pictures with my bud...}

{back to being tourists - after gravy, we decided to head over to the portland farmer's market, something else we've been meaning to do for years, but haven't since there's one so much closer to our home - the insanely awesome weather meant it was PACKED, but we had a great time perusing the very large market}

{had no idea chard was so colorful}

{after the farmer's market, we headed to a local park where we met up with my sister jen and her sweet baby girl audrey - someone looked snazzy all decked out in her hot pink shades}

{walking along the columbia river meant walking under the bridge - looks very different from this perspective than it did during my daily commute}

{jen & audrey - can't believe what a big girl she is already)

{lunch on sunday after church}

{reid and madyson, the flirt...just look at the way she's looking up at him.  and bud's just hanging out chomping on his hand mitts}

{nomers and the three musketeers.  SOMEONE was determined not to smile}

{until i told her i didn't want her to smile - oh, reverse psychology...}

{just missing three}
{i took advantage of nomer's willingness, and got some more pics of bud and i}

{after lunch we headed to skamania lodge - stopping at the bridge of the gods was a must for this bridge-obsessed civil engineer}

{at skamania lodge}

{sweet baby toes}

{he's letting nomers know what he thinks of all the picture taking}

{with daddy}

{and the fam...}

{monday morning - nomers ended her trip with yet more food - this time, pine state biscuits, one of our favs.  the above yumminess was their shrimp & grits which i'd been meaning to try for a while.  it was DELISH and is the only thing i'll be ordering there in the near future}

{nomers went the more traditional route with biscuits and sausage gravy, topped with mushrooms and a side of bacon.  she didn't leave disappointed.  :) }

having nomers visit was such a treat, and we're keeping our fingers crossed she and her hubs will come visit later this summer, this time for a week.  i can only imagine how much we'll be able to pack into a week!  :)

OMG Lyg, I could not get enough of that little guy all weekend. It was so much fun. I'm so glad I made the trip. I definitely ate very well and don't regret a single calorie. Though I do think Tab's missed a few dishes. Now I need to do my recap post with pictures. I have so many...

And I can't wait until our trip in September....So excited!!!
