a phoenix tale

last week we were in phoenix for my cousin dave's wedding. this is the same dave who lives in el salvador and who we visited and stayed with for 10 days last september. he fell in love with gorgeous diana from chicago and they got married in phoenix (b/c that's where he has tons of family.) confused yet? :)

now, if i'm being completely honest, phoenix has never been high on my list of places to visit; however we've found ourselves traveling there at least once a year for the past few years due the large number of extended family we have in that area and the number of weddings and other events that have taken place, two of them my immediate sibling's weddings.

however, this time was different. i consider this the best time we've ever had in phoenix, hands down! the weather was certainly one of the biggest factors, and since we'd never been there in the spring before, we didn't realize what we were missing. it was gorgeous. high 70's, low 80's, simply beautiful! i can almost almost understand why people would want to live there. ;)

and there were so many other reasons it was a great trip...

staying at monica's house (sister of the groom) and being around her family, some who i hadn't seen in many years and had come from afar; fun, loving, boisterous...never a dull moment. i realized more than ever that i have amazing cousins who i truly enjoying spending time with. monica went above and beyond, and was most definitely the hostess with the most-est. love you monica! :)

learning to play spades from the master drill sergeant; thanks, ben!

spring training baseball games. i never really understood what all the fuss was about, or really, what spring training in phoenix consists of. well, reid was determined to attend as many games as possible, and amazingly (considering we didn't have our own rental car and were swamped with wedding setup, etc.) made it to three games. josh, monica and i joined him for one, and it was actually quite pleasant. i didn't have to bust out my book or anything! ;)

babies, babies and more babies!! i almost got my baby fix in over the course of the 5 days we were there. little aaron, my cousin ben's 2 1/2 month old, and his chubby cheeks and gorgeous blue eyes-he simply stole my heart! i also met my neice, eliana, for the first time. she's my brother danny's little girl and is 4 1/2 months old. to say i fell head-over-heels for her would be an understatement! she was all smiles (ok, some really funny faces too!), extremely talkative and one of the best behaved babies i have ever been around. i seriously couldn't get enough of her and considered kidnapping...but they keep a close eye on her, darn it! :)

romo food. it was a romo wedding which means there were more 'sarmale' (cabbage rolls)than could ever be eaten, and i loved every minute of it. i made up for my lack of romo food by eating way more than a normal human should consume over the course of a few days. and i would do it again in a heartbeat!

seeing lyg preggers. my sister lyg is apx. 6 (?) months pregnant with her first, and since she lives ALL THE WAY in dallas, it was the first time we saw her baby bump. she's an adorable pregnant woman.

spending time with my siblings, especially those who live far away and i see but once a year, if that. i love them dearly, and always have such a blast with them when we're all together. miss you guys!!

here are a few pics; however, since uploading to blogger is such a pain, the rest of them can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22394749@N06/sets/72157623713328250/
(**oh, just a little disclaimer, these were not taken with my DSLR...it's probably pretty obvious. i just didn't have it in me to lug it around phoenix, so instead, i put my canon point-and-shoot to good use. **)

Once a year, for a few weeks, we watch the blossoms on our cherry tree come to life, signaling the beginning of a new season. Oh, how I love our cherry tree!

'up in the air'

watched this movie today and loved it! and no, it wasn't just because George Clooney was in it; although he sure has a great smile, doesn't he? ;)

the 80's!

no, i'm not referring to the decade, although what is it about 80's music that just makes me sooo happy lately?! seriously, it's the only music i can listen to in my car...otherwise, it's talk radio :)

i'm referring to what the temperatures will be in phoenix next week when we're there for my cousin dave's wedding.

just for kicks, here's a little comparison:

portland 10-day forecast:
Thu Mar 11 Rain / Wind 50°/48°
Fri Mar 12 Rain 51°/40°
Sat Mar 13 Few Showers 53°/39°
Sun Mar 14 Cloudy 58°/43°
Mon Mar 15 Cloudy 65°/47°
Tue Mar 16 Few Showers 61°/46°
Wed Mar 17 Few Showers 58°/41°
Thu Mar 18 Showers 60°/42°

Fri Mar 19 Mostly Cloudy 60°/43°

methinks there's definitely a trend...

on the other hand...

phoenix 10-day forecast:
Thu Mar 11 Sunny 66°/47°
Fri Mar 12 Sunny 72°/52°
Sat Mar 13 Sunny 74°/52°
Sun Mar 14 Mostly Sunny 73°/52°
Mon Mar 15 Sunny 79°/54°
Tue Mar 16 Sunny 81°/56°
Wed Mar 17 Sunny 82°/55°
Thu Mar 18 Sunny 81°/57°

yep, definitely looks better than rain
